
The International Astronautical Federation was one of the supporting partners of a seminar held at the Berlin Air Show, ILA 2008.
Earth Observation: Solutions for Decision-Making was a two-day conference held between 27-28 May 2008. It was organised by the Deutsches Zentrum fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) and the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI), along with their cooperating partners, the IAF, ESA and EURISY.

The specific demands for Earth Observation products and the challenges ahead were explored during the conference by representatives from public authorities, private sector companies and international organisations. Existing solutions ranging from the space technology to data products were discussed in the light of the future needs by international decision-makers and governmental authorities.

Dr Johann-Dietrich Woerner, Chairman of the DLR Executive Board also welcomed attendees to the conference and further talked about Earth Observation and Germany's role.

Prof. Hartmut Grassl, former director of the "Physics of the Atmosphere" division at the Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg and professor emeritus of meteorology at the University of Hamburg spoke of the role in Earth Observation in weather forecasting and climate projections.

Dr Wolfgang Lueck of the Satellite Applications Centre, South Africa introduced his country's activities in Earth Observation.
